Root Canal Treatment

In the past, an infected or abscessed tooth was often extracted. Today, saving your natural tooth can be done with little or no discomfort by doing root canal therapy, also known as endodontic treatment.

Abscessed teeth may be caused by deep cavities, cracked or flawed fillings. You may experience pain and /or swelling as the nerve or pulp becomes infected. The dentist may notice the infection from the dental x-ray or other changes with the tooth.

Root canal therapy consists of cleaning out the infected pulp and then sealing it to protect it. Ideally, a crown is placed after a root canal to help ensure longevity.
